WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
It is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. It is done by inserting the needles to specific acupuncture points that will regulate the body to its balanced state.
WHAT ARE THE NEEDLES LIKE? DO THEY HURT?
People experience acupuncture needling differently. Most patients feel only minimal pain as the needles are inserted, and some feel no pain at all. Once the needles are in place, there is typically no feeling of pain, but there may be soreness or tingling, a common sensation known as “De Qi”. As our praactitioner only uses disposable needles, there should be no risk of infection from the treatments.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE REALLY WORK?
Yes. In the past 2,000 years, more people have been successfully treated with acupuncture than by all other health modalities combined. There are lots of studies and published articles documenting effective cures by acupuncture. Acupuncture is widely practiced today. Acupuncture can be done in conjunction with other treatment modalities, such as conventional Western medicine, osteopathic or chiropractic adjustments.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
The Chinese Medicine Theory postulates that all problems occur due to blockage, insufficient, or irregular movement of Qi energy and blood. The needle punctures open up the channels that balances the Qi and regulates its flow. Acupuncture can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances such as enery utilization, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.
Modern scientific explains that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system.
The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities, and the promotion of physical and emotional well-being.
